Weekend Update

Well, we had a good weekend, weather wise, and I didn’t have much to do at the house. Saturday morning, I did make a run to Home Depot for a few things hen came home and did a little work. After that, it was off to the PreOwned Store, where I bought the Jeep. I picked up a used bumper with a big brush guard and a bikini top for summer. Came home and installed the bumper. Now to drive it! I decided to make a run up to Amicalola Falls State Park for the 2010 Appalachian Trail Celebration & Backpacking Clinic. I wanted to see a few folks and meet David “AWOL” Miller, the author of AWOL on the Appalachian Trail. David & I are friends on Facebook, but have never met. As I was walking up to his table, he recognized me. It was real god to finally meet him. Had a great drive up, a good time at the clinic and a great drive back.

Sunday, I actually got to go play golf. Survivor Dave & I had a fun round, as long as you don’t factor in our scores.

Oh, I should also add that I did the 15 to 20 gallon gas mod on the Jeep. when they built the jeep they used one tank, but offered the 15 gallon as standard and the 20 as an upgrade. All they did was change the sending unit and put in a long vent tube, so it would shut off at 15 gallons. You remove the extra tube and you have 20 gallons. Of course with the 15 gallon sending unit, it stays on full for a while.

Update from my life

Well, as usual, I have been extremely busy as of late. Work is constant and steady. It shows no signs of letting up. But I suppose that is a good thing. I spend many longs days and even into the night working on bids.

Now for the bigger news. Jill and I have put the house on the market. As much as we love living in Lake Arrowhead, Jill has decided that she really wants to live closer in, especially to Mike’s school. I understand this. She drives a 1 hour, 15 minute round trip about 2 to 3 times a day. Plus, when Mike starts driving, we don’t want him having to make that long trip on Hwy 20, either.

Here is a link to the listing.

Snowing in Georgia

Well, we have some snow, today. We are suppose to get between 2″ & 4″ before it’s over. I drove the Jeep to work, just in case I needed the 4WD to get home. On the way home, I took a side turn off the road just for a small photo op. It was fun throwing in in 4 Lo and driving in the snow. I did realize that I need some better All Terrain tires for stuff like this or mud.

Just a long overdue post

Well, it has been a while since I last posted. I have been extremely busy with work. But, I suppose that is a better problem than the other side would be.

I did do a couple of small things to the Jeep. I quick painted the old fender flares. They are still rough, but look a little better. later, I’ll either try and really fix them or replace them. I also installed the step tubes.

It may be a while before i get a chance to post some more. Jill & I have decided to put the house on the market. We want to move closer to Mike’s school and town. That will help with all of the wasted time and gas spent running back and forth. However, this means a lot of work getting the house prepped for the market. Mix this in with my work load and Ron will be a very busy fellow.

Just added some fun

95 YJ

1995 Jeep Wrangler, YJ Series

Well after many years of wanting, I finally have a Jeep Wrangler. (That and a wonderful wife) Recently I acquired a 1995 Wrangler (YJ series). It is in pretty good shape. Yes, there are a few rough areas, such as interior paint, fender flares and a spot on the hood, but mechanically she is sound. One thing that impressed me with it is the fact that the previous owner is a private pilot and airplane owner. They are usually good about basic maintenance and from what I have checked on this Jeep, he was too.

It’s a basic Wrangler. 2.5L, 4 cyl w/ a manual tranny. But that’s fine.

Can’t wait for spring. Jeeps are funky with the tops on.

As I do things, I’ll blog it and post a few pics here and more on Photobucket.

So, I will be doing little things as it goes along, but that’s part of having a Jeep. I am planning on doing the interior with one of the truck bed type liner treatments. According to several of the Jeep forums, the best route is the Herculian kit. I have to put a radio in it, but have already found a good deal on a used one from a co-worker. The tires are almost new, but they are street treads. So, tires will be further down the line. Probably look at a paint job over next winter, too. Might even look at a 2.5” lift kit somewhere down the line.
